HAWK training programme for 2021 launched

The weather is gradually stabilizing, our Elementary courses at the Beskydy Flying School are running, so there is nothing to stop the launch of the El Speedo HAWK training program.

For whom? For graduates of any Elementary Paragliding Course who want to improve their flying and learn with us.

The participants have a radio set programmed by us, in the morning you will take a look at our morning meteo-briefing, you will decide whether you want to join or not, if so, you will follow us to the place where we are training, the instructor will tell you which frequency we are using and go!

If you want a bed in Flight Park Javorový or a campsite pitch, let us know so we can count on it. The same applies if you want to borrow our school equipment for the club price of CZK 300 per day.

We start recording the morning meteo-briefing this Saturday and then every day, until the end of the season.

If you are not yet in the HAWK programme and would like to, call Marcela in the office, she will enroll you, set up access to El Speedo e-learning (you also have a nice Meteorology there) and on the first visit we will give you your new radio. The price of this two-year program is CZK 4,900, given that you have access to any Basic Course in the Beskydy Mountains or in Raná for two years, so it’s for a bottle of honey, as my neighbor says.

15. – 16. 5. 2021 SAFETY MOTO PARASEM

Who is this event suitable for?

We want to mix free and powered flying, we also want to invite the general public. There is a limited number of vacancies for the event, so it is necessary to book in advance. If the weather allows, we will also go for free flying during the event. It only depends on you which part of the program you choose.

What program can you look forward to?

Rescue parachute usage training on a zip-line simulator directly in Flight Park Javorový,
Rescue parachute packaging and proper installation in harnesses lessons,
Powered paragliding training methods,
How to operate the engine safely,
Rescue systems for paragliding and hang gliding,
Safe piloting techniques during a normal flight.

PRICE for lectures, simulator training and repacking: free

We will hang up the opened reserve parachutes for you overnight and we will also gradually pack them in the morning and install them in your containers and harnesses.

Anti-pandemic measures

We assume that some anti-pandemic measures will still be in force and so we will divide the registered pilots according to the current rules, which will be located in several locations: 2 classrooms with data projectors, online streaming, as we know from past anti-pandemic PARASEMs.

We are preparing the program for 4 × 10 pilots, so whoever registers earlier will reserve a place for that. So if you want to have the equipment ready and professionally inspected before the season, take the chance.

24. – 25. 7. 2021 XC MOTO PARASEM

Following the rivers to their springs – this is the motif of the El Speedo powered paragliding XC program. And you can join us…

We have prepared two two-day routes for you so that we don’t have to rush against the wind on the current day.

Arrival on Friday evening or Saturday morning, we will describe the prepared route, navigation points, pack everything in an El Speedo car with an engine cart and move to the starting point. The car drives along the route and solves possible technical problems, the goal of the first day in the camp by the water. Chill out, barbecue, beer, overnight stay and in the morning again in the air to manage to fly as close as possible to the source of the river and return to Flight Park Javorový.

It’s upstream, but we’re flying above it. Tthe wind will help us and we’ll see a piece of interesting human creations and natural beauties. We will take photos and film that all and the result will be a short film about how to experience a small powered paragliding adventure just in our neighbourhood. So if you’re already bored by flying around your chimney, don’t hesitate and fly with us. The driver, technician and the cameraman – Michal Krause, flying guide Martin Orlík (Míša Machartová, Pavel Březina) plus another max. 7 pilots. For those who apply first, we hold the place. Those without seats don’t go. So the others have to follow us on their own…

New El Speedo paraglider designs for 2021

We have prepared new colour designs of El Speedo FREDDIE2 and JIMMY3 paragliders for you. El Speedo paragliders designed by Alexej Rakov have very interesting performance and safety characteristics and we believe that they also deserve a new “sharper” colour scheme. You may have already encountered it on the new single-skin LEMMY model or the OZZY3 model.

We also replaced the large EL SPEEDO inscription on the top cover, which could not be overlooked, with a small inscription on the trailing edge. El Speedo paragliders are already well known to pilots and such aggressive presentation in the form of a large logo is no longer necessary.

At present, the supplies of different colors of SKYTEX material are limited. Materials for the basic color combinations listed for each model are in stock. We are also preparing a new configurator, which will also include other color options. However, we have to deal with these other combinations flexibly in the form of inquiry, because the supply of other colors at suppliers is constantly changing during the covid period and we will therefore react according to the current situation.

We hope that you will like the new designs and that we will be able to add new color combinations soon.

Our Elementary Paragliding Courses in 2021

We have gone through it the last year, so nothing we cannot cope with. Outside our standard education program we have worked deeper on our online pre course preparation and prepared even better distance learning tools. Outside in nature and in the air while flying the virus is no threat and we are ready to stream the video of the lectures so every course participant can watch them separately in private. So what anti-pandemic measures can you count on in our Elementary paragliding courses in Beskydy?

We recommend you to get tested before the course. We will obey actual rules and government orders. So far flying and teaching to fly is permitted. If needed the training will take place in smaller groups or individually.

Theoretical preparation and possibility of distance learning

On line preparation materials are available for each student before beginning of the course.
Our classroom is equipped with audio/video apparatus for lecture streaming. We also prepare transmitting via our internal network so that the transmitting speed is sufficient and allows quick response of students and lecturers.
We are ready to realise theoretical lectures in the open air.

Transport

Our 2 Land Rovers Discovery with seven seats and one Ford Transit with nine seats are ready and disinfected regularly. They also carry disinfection on their passengers disposal.
If it is necessary we can use individual cars for transport to training terrains.

Safe accommodation in Flight Park Javorový

There are 6 rooms each with own bathroom and an individual entrance.
If needed there are spots for campers with electricity.
We also have space for tents with electric plugs and a roof for cooking, bathrooms and the outdoor fireplace.
We have also 3 tree tents to rent.
Our club bar or outdoor bar with outdoor dining area are ready to serve breakfast and meals to accommodated.
Each room, classroom, office and equipment storage is equipped with disinfection.

So, if you fancy an active holiday, want to learn to fly and recharge some energy for following times, we are looking forward to you.

February SAFETY PARASEM made real

In the demanding conditions of the current state of emergency, we managed to help the pilots in this year’s first SAFETY PARASEM in checking their rescue systems and repacking their reserve parachutes. We did everything necessary in a calm atmosphere and I would like to thank everyone once again for their cooperation and adherence to the agreed rules.

Support Javorový and Prašivá flying terrains

We have another season ahead of us and I would like to ask you to consider supporting the flying terrains: Javorový – west, Prašivá – west and Prašivá – south. Ten years of each of these take-offs cost CZK 350 – 400 thousand. Do you want to support these places and help with rentals?

Send the pilot’s annual contribution to these 3 flying terrains – CZK 500 to the account: 670100-2209122227 / 6210. We will use the funds obtained in this way not only for rentals and fees for the take offs, but we are also preparing other projects supporting the development of paragliding. We inform you about them on the El Speedo website.

This year we have an interesting alternative: send a contribution of 1000 CZK to the above account and to get a good feeling from the support of places for flying, you will also get El Speedo CHAN TENGRI – Summer leather gloves worth CZK 990 and that’s fine, right? They will be ready at this year’s PARASEMS to try the right size and quickly pick them up or we will send them to you by post.

Building and maintaining Beskydy flying sites

PARASEM 20 – 21 February 2021 in Beskydy – restrictions

Hello Pilots,

we have a situation here in which various restrictions are imposed by the state. So we are adjusting the February SAFETY PARASEM in the Beskydy Mountains to the current real possibilities. Lectures and training will be provided only for instructors, assistants and pilots in charge of repacking reserve parachutes – ie for pilots who are professionally connected with this activity. For the registered pilots we will be happy to disassemble and hang up the whole rescue system, repack it and install it back in the harness the next day.

The weather should be sunny, probably a little windier, southwestern directions – it seems like an interesting morning hike & fly at Prašivá or Skalka (depending on the strength and direction of the wind). After this refreshment, bring your harness with the reserve parachute to Flight Park Javorový and we will take care of it. If you only want to bring a reserve parachute, you are deprived of the inspection and installation of the parachute in the harness. It’s up to you.

We will be receiving harnesses and reserve parachutes from 10:00 to 17:00 so that you have time to walk or fly through the Beskydy Mountains. Due to the ban on gathering, we will not run our outdoor zip line trainer for the reserve parachute usage practice.

Lectures for professional pilots will focus on:

correct repacking of various reserve parachute types,
correct installation of RP in various harnesses,
detailed analysis of pilot errors and behavior on various types of paragliders at last year’s SIV courses,
ways of pilot navigation and practical training analysis for beginning instructors.

On Sunday, we will practice reserve parachute packing in real. Due to the limited number of pilots, we should have everything done before lunch and you will be able to go in the mountains again.

If the situation allows, we will transmit the content of the lectures online in the same way as in previous PARASEMS. You will find current information and stream link here on Friday.

El Speedo LEMMY – interested in flying speeds?

Are you curious what speeds we measured during test flying?
With Lemmy sized M (18 m2) loaded at 87 kg total, we measured the trim speed of 37 km/h, a minimum speed of 26 km/h and maximum speed of 41 km/h while this speed was reached at 40% speed of system, further depression no longer affected the horizontal speed. LEMMY switched to deep stall when braking below 22 km/h.

And how does LEMMY behave on landing and below the minimum speed?
The landing flare isn’t completely such as with standard paragliders, but it is definitely possible to slow down enough to land. As you brake and go to deep stall, the steering forces increase naturally and enough to warn you before entering the stall. The separation of stream lines is then significantly faster, and the transition to normal flight mode is just as fast.
