We have prepared new colour designs of El Speedo FREDDIE2 and JIMMY3 paragliders for you. El Speedo paragliders designed by Alexej Rakov have very interesting performance and safety characteristics and we believe that they also deserve a new “sharper” colour scheme. You may have already encountered it on the new single-skin LEMMY model or the OZZY3 model.

We also replaced the large EL SPEEDO inscription on the top cover, which could not be overlooked, with a small inscription on the trailing edge. El Speedo paragliders are already well known to pilots and such aggressive presentation in the form of a large logo is no longer necessary.

At present, the supplies of different colors of SKYTEX material are limited. Materials for the basic color combinations listed for each model are in stock. We are also preparing a new configurator, which will also include other color options. However, we have to deal with these other combinations flexibly in the form of inquiry, because the supply of other colors at suppliers is constantly changing during the covid period and we will therefore react according to the current situation.

We hope that you will like the new designs and that we will be able to add new color combinations soon.

Are you curious what speeds we measured during test flying?
With Lemmy sized M (18 m2) loaded at 87 kg total, we measured the trim speed of 37 km/h, a minimum speed of 26 km/h and maximum speed of 41 km/h while this speed was reached at 40% speed of system, further depression no longer affected the horizontal speed. LEMMY switched to deep stall when braking below 22 km/h.

And how does LEMMY behave on landing and below the minimum speed?
The landing flare isn’t completely such as with standard paragliders, but it is definitely possible to slow down enough to land. As you brake and go to deep stall, the steering forces increase naturally and enough to warn you before entering the stall. The separation of stream lines is then significantly faster, and the transition to normal flight mode is just as fast.

I always look forward to the final version of a model that Alexei Rakov and his team prepares for us. But with LEMMY, it’s a little more interesting. Because Alexej has huge experience not only with the construction of paragliders, but also with the construction of kites. And that’s really good with a single-skin paraglider.

I’m very happy with LEMMY. Not only because we have a modern successor for a lightweight travel version of Black Betty. I am especially happy that this is something really EXTRA. A result that I didn’t even expect. Yesterday I flew LEMMY and in various respects it exceeded my expectations and requirements.

First of all, taking-off with a single-skin is generally very simple. The was south-east wind and that is exactly the opposite of ideal at Javorový. But no problem, glider over my head, I felt like it was even waiting for me there. Then a completely calm takeoff without any down wash that I would normally expect in these conditions, just a completely smooth transition. We glided through the air in a strange calmness and silence, and I began to wonder how nicely it worked, how the steering exactly followed my hand. And especially how it slides through a space with performance that I wouldn’t really expect from a single-skin.

I twisted in risers, searching the air for the drone which was filming my flight. And even rotated 180 °, I could easily weight-shift control the direction, it did not fall into a sharp turn as with other models.

A new JIMMY3 flew in front of me and I immediately compared the speed and the height at which we fly over the power lines and I was surprised to see how LEMMY glides nicely. Great for a single-skin. The relatively higher aspect ratio of 5.5 certainly plays a role in this construction.

We had been receiving more and more questions about the possibility of registering flights on El Speedo paragliders in XContest – a worldwide cross country flying competition. And so we started to solve it and the result is the addition of El Speedo paragliders to the XContest database.

El Speedo paragliders have been designed by Alexei Rakov for several years and the production takes place in the Sky Country company. The paragliders are certified by the Swiss company Air Turquoise SA under their Sky Country names. However, El Speedo paragliders have their own names for the Czech market (Bobby, Freddie, Jimmy, Ozzy, Janis, Olivier, …). If you have already entered your flying performance on the EL Speedo paraglider under its certification name, you can change it to the El Speedo name retrospectively.

In the menu My flights (in ČPP or in the World) in the column “action” just click on “edit flight” and there select your paraglider and then confirm with the button “send” and that’s it.

The new model of the powerful EN B, designed by Alexei Rakov, has been certified and is ready for production. So if you are going to rearm the EN A, EN B glider or want more peace and better performance than your older EN C, then JIMMY 3 is definitely the way to go.

With our new JANIS and OZZY3 sports models, you can look forward to great performance and great steering to enhance the sporty feel of the flight with the new JIMMY. As an extraordinary model, we also decided to prepare a new EL SPEEDO ART EDITION on this occasion. Unsymmetrical, abstract and minimalist design. For someone it can  be only three colors, for others it can be ice floes floating in the sea, hungry fire, frozen plain, field flowers on a hot summer day or sunset. This is an abstraction that pushes man into the world of fantasy. Do you know Mark Rothko? Fifteen years ago, I got to his life story and I am still impressed by his work.

I will be happy if you will enjoy pleasant flying on our new TOP EN B model and achieve great sports performance. For testing we have size M – total load 80-100 kg, sizes S and L will be ready for testing at the end of February 2020.
