Quick info:
Events full of interesting lectures, entertainment, meetings with pilots, usage training and packing reserve parachutes and various crazy activities, about which you will learn only in person on the spot. So it’s really good to be there. Because rescue parachute repacking takes time, we use it effectively for paragliding education in the form of presentations, lectures and workshops. For PG instructors, participation in lectures is an opportunity to extend the two-year validity of their instructor license.

What kind of event:
It is a series of paragliding seminars organised by El Speedo – flying community for pilots, instructors and the general public. These are several practical trainings and lectures that are designed to revive or gain information about paragliding and life around it. Experienced instructors, test pilots, LAA CR officials, rescue service technicians, members of the Mountain Rescue Service of the Czech Republic and meteorologists take part in this event as lecturers.

Terrains
The event activities usually take place in Flight Park Javorový. You can listen to lectures in lecture tents or in our training room, and we use our zip-line simulator installed near Flight Park Javorový to practice reserve parachute toss. If you want to fly during the events, the options will be Javorový (480 m elevation gain, starts oriented to the W – NW, N – E) or to the nearby Prašivá (300 m elevation gain, starts oriented to the SW, SW-W).

Conditions of participation:
Pilots, those interested in flying and the general public can participate.

Difficulty:
Low and medium physical demands.

Duration of the event:
1-3 days (according to the program for each event).

Each event has its individual timetable focused on the above topic. We will inform you about a specific program and the current time schedule via an article on the El Speedo website.

I always look forward to the final version of a model that Alexei Rakov and his team prepares for us. But with LEMMY, it’s a little more interesting. Because Alexej has huge experience not only with the construction of paragliders, but also with the construction of kites. And that’s really good with a single-skin paraglider.

I’m very happy with LEMMY. Not only because we have a modern successor for a lightweight travel version of Black Betty. I am especially happy that this is something really EXTRA. A result that I didn’t even expect. Yesterday I flew LEMMY and in various respects it exceeded my expectations and requirements.

First of all, taking-off with a single-skin is generally very simple. The was south-east wind and that is exactly the opposite of ideal at Javorový. But no problem, glider over my head, I felt like it was even waiting for me there. Then a completely calm takeoff without any down wash that I would normally expect in these conditions, just a completely smooth transition. We glided through the air in a strange calmness and silence, and I began to wonder how nicely it worked, how the steering exactly followed my hand. And especially how it slides through a space with performance that I wouldn’t really expect from a single-skin.

I twisted in risers, searching the air for the drone which was filming my flight. And even rotated 180 °, I could easily weight-shift control the direction, it did not fall into a sharp turn as with other models.

A new JIMMY3 flew in front of me and I immediately compared the speed and the height at which we fly over the power lines and I was surprised to see how LEMMY glides nicely. Great for a single-skin. The relatively higher aspect ratio of 5.5 certainly plays a role in this construction.

I flew the 18 m2 size and the forward speed was pretty good. I only took my tandem harness and left the speed bar in the office. I immediately regretted it, because the risers with speed pulleys asked for a test of the faster flight of the single-skin. So I started trying collapses at least at basic speed. It stayed with the tries because it just wasn’t possible to pull it down within the length of my hands to break the leading edge under the wing. I just deformed it every time, and then I had to let go of everything in disgust. Why disgusted? Because nothing fundamental happened. I just haven’t experienced that much stability with a single paraglider. Then I tried transitiin to a deep stall, it was like with a normal but heavily loaded middle EN-B, a little differently distributed forces in the control range, a faster reaction, but everything is quite legible. I will continue to test it in various loads and report.

And then landing into the slope in the south wind blowing down the hill. Well, I was very curious how LEMMY would flare. These were not typical conditions, difficult to compare. Landing completely smooth, precise reaction, soft. But I could see how easily the descent trajectory could be controlled. I’m already looking forward to the next flights, when I will try LEMMY in different conditions. I’m really looking forward to the feeling of flying at minimum speed and accuracy landing training. I’m curious about collapses at maximum speed, I’m looking forward to LEMMY in thermals. I really enjoyed it and I believe that so the other pilots will.

So, who is LEMMY suitable for? Well, I’m probably the most surprised at that. I used to think that single-skins are more of a fad for more experienced pilots, stable and interesting for the powered paragliding, certainly interesting for traveling, but I had to reconsider this with astonishment.

That incredibly simple take-off, so easy canopy control overhead, huge stability in flight, very low weight and perfect stowage even with used standard materials with sufficient durability, easy landing – this makes LEMMY a very universal model for a wide range of pilots. And I understand that this will be against the fur of some instructors, but also for beginner pilots. And that it doesn’t have an EN test? So, given the features of this model, due to its construction and stability, I simply do not consider it important. I consider this to be such a successful and revolutionary solution that I do not consider any EN testing and bending of the structure to make the figures possible at all, important or beneficial. And I think that anyone who wants to argue about this should fly LEMMY first and only then make an opinion about it.

So for me: schools, training of various take-offs, novice pilots, advanced pilots, lovers of mountain climbing and flying in the mountains, travellers and adventurers – this is LEMMY’s target group. LEMMY is not a great athlete, but a relaxed and fun partner. Come and try it and then let us know what you think about it. 😉

I knew about the former aeroclub airport at Kotař Mountain, from which the sport airplanes started using a rubber rope glider. Actually it was one of the main reasons why I started to solve the new southern launch site on Prasiva hill. Take a look at history and come out of previously proven places – I would recommend it to anyone who likes to create a new startup. But there was a problem with the infrastructure and the landing area in Kotař. And from Prašivá it’s on Kotař on the ridge, not four kilometers over two ribs. The ridge is very often exposed to the southwestern and southern winds, and flying overlooking the whole Beskydy is great at this place.

Yesterday I got a book “Beskydske Grune” from Mrs. Irena Cichá, in which I found not only interesting text, but also historical photos to the airport at Kotař Mountain.

In the 1940s several aeroclubs (later the United Airways Clubs of Těšín) operated in Těšín. The aviation enthusiasts decided to set up another airport in the upper part of the Beskydy mountains around 1946. After surveys, they found a new location on Kotař Mountain. The adjacent mountains, on one side Ropička and on the other side Prašivá and Kyčera, created good conditions for the operation of the sports airport. The trees were first cut out, then landscaping took place and a material was taken out of the temporary path to the Kotař cottage. The operation of the airport was initiated by experienced pilot Ludwig Klimsz using a rubber rope. In May 1949 the pilot and instructor Josef Godula used the favorable weather conditions and his glider was soon out of sight. Over the part of Beskydy and Malá Fatra he flew to Slovakia. Thus, the fires were lit on Kotař, marking the borders of the airport, which were to be maintained until the glider landed. However, the plane landed in the vicinity of Dobratice early in the morning, away from the airport about 8 kilometers – the climbing currents enabled the pilot to sail over the Beskydy until dawn.

After 1949, the operation of the airport was terminated as a result of the political changes and the airfield was moved to the interior.

That’s what the Communists have distinguished …

This year we will be actively involved in the third year of the event “Thank the Mountains, or Great Spring Cleaning of the Beskydy Mountains”, which is 27.5. 2017 is organized by association Clean Beskydy.

This Saturday in the parking lot at the Javorovy close the cable car you will find one of 11 collection points and facilities for event participants. There will be container for throwing waste bags. Even this year, the gatherer’s organizers will write in the raffle prize draw and everyone will also get little attention.

The collection points will be open from 9am to 3pm. One of the collection points, as already mentioned, will be El Speedo tent in the parking lot at the cable car below Javorovy, where you will obtain plastic garbage bags. We recommend taking your own rubber gloves.

More information about the event can be found on the organizers’ website www.cistebeskydy.cz or at El Speedo office. After the gathering points are closed, everyone is invited to the ecological festivals in Čeladná, where a rich music program will be prepared and there will be a prize draw within the tombola.

If you have a time and a taste to help clean the mountains, you have a unique opportunity.

I would like to thank all of you who came to help on Saturday job at Prasiva. We did a lot of work and without you it could be done very stiff. Now I hope it will be more happy when the  grass grow and everything get greener. There is still a lot of work around the starting point but thanks to your help we are more close to our idea.

Preparation, implementation and maintenance, as well as with our other runways, finance largely from sources of El Speedo paragliding school. Only price realization, rent and maintenance for 10 years one of the resulting runway is around CZK 400,000.

If you would like to have someone to contribute financially to the construction of the new southern runway, send a contribution 500-1000 CZK to the account: 670100-2209122227 / 6210th The money will be used to pay for deforestation and annual rents.

If you were to Prasiva and had time to consider when strong winds, please help shovel the stones and the bottom of the take-off. Throw it to the side, in a place where you will see well.
