Thank you for your interest in our Basic Paragliding Training

We, El Speedo instructors, are also looking forward to the course and we would like to arrange as many things as possible in advance, so that together we can maximize the effects of what the weather and training pace allow us.

We have prepared several topics for you. Please find out more by clicking on them.

First thing after submitting your application via our website, we will check the availability of places in your desired term. This usually happens within 2 business days. If we have already confirmed your place by phone or email, it is time to really book your holiday. Otherwise, please contact the El Speedo office at +420 777 311 661 or info@elspeedo.cz.

To secure a reserved place in the course, it is necessary to pay CZK 990 fee for El Speedo E-learning. Do not delay sending this fee for a long time, because other interested parties are applying for the dates and we need a quick response for them. The maximum number of students per course is limited. Without this fee, your application will only be registered as a potential applicant for the selected date, but a fixed reservation with a guarantee of place and equipment for training does not mean that yet.

Please, transfer the amount of CZK 990 to the account number: 86-5822050237 / 0100. For identification, state your name and surname plus text ”E-výuka na ZK” in the message for the recipient. This El Speedo E-learning Fee is to be deducted from the price of our Elementary Paragliding Course and You will pay the rest in cash or by wire during the course.

You can quickly verify any ambiguities by calling the El Speedo office: +420 777 311 661.

E-learning is a very important part of the theoretical training in the Basic Course, thanks to which training is more effective from day one. How to get started?

  1. Create an account on the El Speedo website, using the e-mail address provided in the course application. Register here: https://elspeedo.cz/wp-signup.php
  2. After tranfering the e-learning fee, please inform us at info@elspeedo.cz and we will set you up with permissions of the STUDENT account.

How to reach us: https://javorovy-vrch.cz/trasa/

The training pace and locations are very much weather dependant. Every morning there is a meeting where we check the forecast and set a training plan of the day including the dining options. We will definately make time for food but any advanced orders of served food in Flight Park Javorový can be tricky ecspecially in the begining of the course because we may leave early in the morning and come back late in the evening.

So, in case of practical training away from FPJ we shop for food and eat it in nature or we visit some of the local restaurants. And as soon as we switch to high-flights near our base, we try to manage eating together at Flight Park Javorový so that it does not delay training and complicate the situation. Our instructors will inform you and suggest solutions.

There is an offer of drinks, sweets and snacks as well as possibility of ordering breakfast, lunch and dinner at El Speedo Club Bar. Via our PIPON system you have acces to discounted prices and semi-self servisce in a kind of a shared bar. We will explain everything you need on the spot.

Prices for meals:
Breakfast with a drink (coffee, tea): 90 CZK
Lunch menu: 150 CZK
Dinner: 130 CZK

Accommodation in the rooms of Flight Park Javorový can also use a shared kitchen, in which they keep order throughout the course, sort and take out garbage and use it so that other visitors and guests have a clean and ready shared kitchen.

The same is true for the outdoor fireplace and outdoor kitchen for lodgers at the campsite. We simply do not leave shared spaces until everything is tidy and ready for others. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

During the first days of training, depending on the weather and the training pace, but always before high-flights, we arrange a mandatory medical examination for all students. Our private doctor will examine the students and certify the papers, for a friendly CZK 200, so the students do not have to chase their GP. If you are thinking about what the conditions are, then simply – if you do not have any serious health problems that limit, for example, driving a car, then you should pass. If unsure or you have such problems, do not hesitate to discuss your doctor. The medical check for our purpouses should come from a General Practicioner Doctor based in the Czech Republic and state: “Schopen paraglidingu” or, if  from abroad, you would need “Medical certificate Class II” for pilots.

If you already have a valid medical examination for air sports, definitely take it with you and you will not have to go for the examination again.

In any case, if you have any diseases that could affect the safety of training (diabetes, epilepsy, …), inform the instructors to be prepared for possible situations and choose the optimal training pace for you.

Hydration – YES
Adequate fluid intake is very important throughout the practical training. It is necessarry for good concentration and prevents heatstroke and sunburn. Be prepared for the increased need for fluids.

Alcohol and drugs in training – NO
Students’ concentration in practical and theoretical training is an important factor for safe and quality management of our course. No matter what are capable of or used to in your personal lessure time, it is our duty to ensure the maximum level of your concentration. A student who is under the influence of alcohol and other addictive substances will not be admitted to practical training. If this situation causes the specified training syllabus not to be completed by the date of the course, the offer of supplement flying free of charge will not apply in this case.

Meeting at the beginning of the course:

Usually we meet on Saturday (Basic courses start on Monday from the second half of September) at 8:00 am directly in Flight Park Javorový (www.javorovy-vrch.cz). After a short introduction and presentation of organizational information, we will hand out the paragliding equipment, explain the daily training plan and start paragliding training according to the weather conditions. Students park their cars directly in the parking lot by Flight Park Javorový.

Practical training:

Basicly we have 7 days and every day we try and train to fly. But always with sufficient theoretical preparation that students always know what and why they train. Therefore, it is very helpful and more efficient to train, if you invest your time in El Speedo online preparation before the course and try to complete some of the training quiz.

But back to practical training – first we train take-offs, low straight flights and landings, then 90 ° and 180 ° turns and landings in a designated sector. If there is enough wind, we train reverse launches. After completing the necessary disciplines, students are ready for their first flights down the big hill. We then choose training terrains with an elevation of min. 300 meters. Students are guided by the instructor to 90 °, 180 ° and 360 ° turns, practice ridge soaring, piloting techniques in thermals, escaping maneuvres and non standard situations. We train these disciplines for the next few days, until the end of the course. The distribution of individual training disciplines into training days is highly dependent on the weather and the individual abilities and skills of the students.

Theoretical preparation:

The theoretical part of the training is usually carried out in the morning and evening hours when we have before or after flying, or, when due to bad weather we can’t fly. We try to use the time spent in teaching as efficiently as possible and we use simple simulators, parachute models, a data projector with El Speedo training modules, training books, online tests with help, aviation magazines and aviation-themed films.

Depending on your height and weight, we will assign you a school paragliding set with a helmet. We will give you a radio for communication during the practical training, so you will get everything you need to fly. If you want to use your own helmet, just make sure it is well ventilated, it is usually quite warm during training.

In case of a colder weather forecast, such as in the spring or autumn, consider bringigng warmer clothes and thinner gloves. It can get quite cold in the air. But sturdy ankle supporting boots, long pants, a long-sleeved T-shirt, windbreaker, sunscreen and sunglasses – these are the standard for a paragliding pilot, not only during training.

For theoretical preparation some tablet or a big screen smart phone will definitely come in handy. We prepared the electronic book, supporting e-learning web site and online tests that you will need to pass during the course. If you don’t have one, let us know, we’ll help you with a solution.

And to save our nature a little more, bring 2 water bottles with you so you don’t have to buy bottled water. We have very good and tasty water on tap.

Practically, the number of high flights in our Basic Courses varies according to the current weather and energy of the studentss. We usually fly 12-16 high flights with an elevation gain of 300-500 meters. But a higher number of flights is also common. We have not determined the maximum number of high-altitude flights departed in the seven days of the Basic Course. Worse weather, however, can cause a lower raid. According to the main instructor, if the raid is insufficient, we offer you flying. One and, if necessary, another flight day for your flight.

This flight has been included in the price of the Basic Course with us for 20 years. It is our thank you that you have chosen our school and we will be happy to offer you this friendly approach in the coming seasons. Because our goal is your quality preparation.

When the weather with us on the Basic Course is really useless, we agree with the group on a departure to alpine paragliding destinations and to continue training in better conditions. More difficult to move, but we highly respect your time for paragliding training. There, the number of training flights is sometimes lower, but significantly longer in terms of time and training compared to meetings in worse weather in the Czech Republic. Our students do not pay extra for training in alpine destinations. Costs are increased by common transport and the difference in camp prices.

We try to meet your needs and effective training as much as possible. But still you sometimes ask us – how many more flights? When can I fly? When should I raid the Pilot License?

So the instructors and I decided to introduce transparent rules into this process:

Rule 1 – Limits

You have 7 days to fly and train to obtain a Pilot License. During the Basic Training in the Czech Republic, we guarantee at least 12 high-altitude flights. To achieve this number, in case of bad weather, you have two more training days available, which are included in the price of the Basic Course. If the pilot manages to meet the training requirements for the Pilot License earlier, it is not his duty to reach 12. But he will be offered it.

Rule 2 – flying after the course in case of deteriorating weather

The student agrees with the El Speedo office, which is in charge of the school calendar and course occupancy, as part of the offer of 12 high-altitude flights in Basic Training. The limit is the occupancy of school equipment and training “permeability” of individual locations. Our training capacity at Flight Park Javorový is relatively high, so the limit is usually just school equipment, but we have increased that again for the 2022 season. The flight takes place according to what the student still needs to train. When it comes to training for takeoffs, low flights or rest in the final part of the landing – we usually train this for the first three days on the smaller hills from Saturday to Monday. When it comes to high-altitude training, higher altitude drills and landing schemes, we get to that from Monday to Friday – this is a minimally exposed airspace and allows for calm and safe training for beginner pilots.

And beware – if you come to us for at least one flight day, then of course we will fly it all over, even if it will be more than 12 flights: o).

Rule 3 – when you need more

We have prepared a HAWK training program for pilots who need significantly more practice for Pilot License training. It is a two-year program in which the pilot can take any of the 24 seasonal Basic Courses at the Beskydy Flying School for a period of 2 years. The price of CZK 4,900 also includes a walkie-talkie with pre-programmed frequencies from our school, so all you have to do is come, switch on the walkie-talkie and train under the supervision of our instructors.

Keeping the terrains tidy
Paragliding and free flying are very closely connected with nature. Maintaining order and cleanliness in nature is not only one of the points of the operating rules of flight terrains, but also the basic rule for our coexistence and a pleasant stay in a beautiful environment. There is a simple rule – whatever we bring to a place, we will take it away with us.

We use shared spaces, sort waste, keep them clean
When using the common kitchen and dining room, the outdoor fireplace or teh club bar, we sort waste and, most importantly, keep them tidy so that others can use these shared spaces comfortably.

El Speedo smart system PIPON
We use our own tailor made system to manage the Flight Park Javorový building, to book accommodation, to organize orders at the club bar and for water and air temperature management. Both installed photovoltaic panels and gravity solar water heating with electronically controlled energy distribution help us to save nature. We are also working on the development of a small home-made Aquaponic farm and its automatic control. Effective energy regulation in the activities of our school is an important topic for us. When we have to fly gliders that are made of synthetic materials and we have to go uphill in cars, we try to help the environment this way.

And what does it mean for us that the student is ready for a PILOT pilot license?

  • the pilot must be able to obtain the correct information to assess the flyable weather
  • the pilot must be able to independently decide for a safe flight
  • the pilot must be able to create a flight plan
  • the pilot must be able to take off independently in easy and moderately demanding flight conditions
  • the pilot must be able to use escaping and descending techniques
  • the pilot must be able to actively respond to asymmetrical and symmetrical collapse of the leading edge
  • the pilot must be able to create and implement the correct landing scheme with respect to the available landing area
  • the pilot must feel comfortable on the paraglider, but at the same time be aware of all the limits, exceeding which would mean an increase in the risk of free flight

This is our approach at the Beskydy Flying School and we are looking forward to new pilots with such greatness.

During the course, the instructors will gradually fill in your Personal Certificate, the Paragliding safety inspector will confirm it after fulfilling the above conditions, and you will be instructed exactly on how to apply for a Pilot License at the Light Aircraft Association of the Czech Republic (LAA ČR).

What equipment will you fly with?
There will be many opportunities to talk about paragliding equipment choice during our course. Buying equipment before the course is usually not the best solution. Many types and categories, different wear and tear, different maintenance costs and different use cases – these are topics that need to be discussed so that a novice pilot can make a competent decision and purchase the right equipment.

And before you choose something specific and it gets made for you, you have the opportunity to rent the school equipment or equipment from our test center. So you can safely fly away and slowly make the right decision…

Where to fly
Is a terrain suitable for beginner pilots? We will definitely talk about it on the course. We will point you to suitable flight terrains at home and abroad. You can definitely start discovering at our website now or later: https://elspeedo.cz/letove-tereny-a-mapy/ .

More training days – bigger effect
We try to spread the basic paragliding training over several days so that it consumes as few days of vacation as possible and at the same time we handle each training minute really effectively. That’s why we prepare so many online learning materials, that’s why we try to organize everything that is needed in advance.

And what certainly contributes greatly to the effect of weekly training in our Basic Training – this is El Speedo Training Booster. These are two weekend days before or after the Basic Training, where we focus exclusively on different types of starting techniques. Simply the time and money investment in Training Booster certainly pays off in an even greater effect of the whole El Speedo teaching methods.

Our system is sufficiently liberal and depends mainly on the personal feeling and capabilities of the pilot. If necessary, feel free to contact us at +420 777 311 661 or info@elspeedo.cz.

At El Speedo we are ready for training and we look forward to seeing you.
